38 weeks….only one more week to go!
Baby Jack should really be plumping up now…weighing about 7 pounds and about 20 inches long (the size of a watermelon).

He now has a firm grasp. I can’t wait to feel his little hand hold my finger for the first time! His organs should be matured and ready for life outside the womb. At this point, he is working on last minute details like shedding the skin-protecting vernix and lanugo, producing more surfactant (a substance that prevents the air sacs in his lungs from sticking to one another once he starts to breathe), continuing to add fat, and fine-tuning his brain and nervous system.
I go back to the doctor tomorrow for another check at progress. We have had NO PROGRESS so far…which is perfect for us because we don’t want Jack to make his big arrival until his Daddy gets home from work. If we start to show progress or actually go into labor we will do our very best to get Jimmy home from San Antonio in time. It will break my heart and his too if he doesn’t get here in time. But, I’m trying not to think about that….just praying, praying and trying to think positive that Jack will stay put until his scheduled date of 12/1.
